12 May 2023 (Kota Samarahan) - The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at UNIMAS hosted an 11-person delegation from the China Medical University Hospital (CMUH) to discuss potential collaboration opportunities.
Led by Dr. Chun-Chung Chen, the chief of the Neurosurgery Department at CMUH, the delegation included representatives from Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) and several Taiwan-based medical industry providers who are affiliated with CMUH as active staff and alumni.
Ms. Aichi Chou, the Chief Executive Officer for the CMUH’s International Centre, was also present. She has been in touch with the faculty and facilitated the visit.
UTAR was represented by Sibu-born Prof. Dr. Lau Hui Ping, the CEO and Chief Medical Director of the UTAR Hospital, who is also an alumnus of CMU.
In attendance to receive the delegates were the Dean, Prof. Asri bin Said; the Deputy Deans, AP Dr. Nariman Sigmamae and AP Dr. Helmy Hazmi; and the Deputy Registrar, Puan Emelia Tambi. The Head of Departments and the Director of the UNIMAS Teaching Hospital and Medical Centre were invited to attend the briefing by the delegates from Taiwan.
The delegation introduced CMUH, a smart hospital that recently won the "Smart Hospital Initiative of the Year" award at the Healthcare Asia Awards 2023 in Singapore. CMUH is recognized as the best hospital in Taichung and one of the top three hospitals in Taiwan for its excellent patient care, medical research, and medical education.
During the meeting, the delegates showcased several products, including the HIWIN robotic gait training system, the Brain Navi surgical robot, and their advanced wireless 12-lead ECG monitor. The delegation also invited more fellows from Sarawak to train at their facility or send medical specialists to enrich their clinical experience.
The meeting was a productive exchange of ideas, and CMUH looks forward to taking the next step in their collaboration with UNIMAS, which is the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
